Between Prayers and Goals – a moment in Bhutan. The sun is low above the hills of Punakha. Among the pine trees adorned with prayer flags, the soft tinkling of a wind chime resonates. I walk into the courtyard of a monastery, where the smell of butter lamps mixes with that of dust and earth.In the distance, I don’t hear chanting, but cheering. In a bare, dusty courtyard, a group of young novices are running after a worn-out soccer ball. Their crimson robes flutter like flags in the wind, pulled up above their knees, some tied with a string. A boy with a bald head and a wide smile sprints barefoot across the pebbles, dodging an opponent and kicking the ball hard between two stacked stones. Goal! The others tumble over each other in joy, screaming. An older monk at the edge of the field watches with a smile, still holding his prayer beads. Here, on this holy ground where silence usually reigns, life sounds in its purest form: carefree, playful, laughing. For a moment, I am not a spectator, but a participant. I raise my hand to the boy who scored. He nods - shy, proud. Then he turns around and runs back onto the field, ready for the next kickoff.

[visited May 7, Chaoyang District in Beijing] This morning I was at 798, a cultural and creative industry park that has been transformed and upgraded from an old factory. The design and planning of the park reflect the characteristics of simple, efficient, and bright production. Industrial landscapes include towering chimneys, German-style power plants, quaint old steam trains, spiral large gas tanks, spectacular furnace clusters, crisscrossing pipeline clusters, etc. I met Leon from 符水club who told me about his projects. [On April 29, visited the World Expo in Osaka] 'Common Ground: creating a new dawn'. The Dutch pavilion has a rectangular shape with a glowing sphere in the center, symbolizing a 'man-made sun'. This represents clean, inexhaustible energy generated from hydropower. The facade is adorned with wavy slats that depict flowing water; as a tribute to 425 years of trade relations between the Netherlands and Japan. Visitors receive a small, glowing sphere upon entry that interacts with installations in the pavilion. These take them along the shared history of the Netherlands and Japan and the Dutch struggle against water. The highlight is the central glowing sphere, in which the world’s first AI-generated 360-degree dome film can be seen. Finally, visitors can share their own ideas and dreams for the future through an interactive artwork. My favorite! Minimalistic, but not cold: a subtle mix of sleek concrete, dark wood, carefully placed lighting, and a hushed tranquility that envelops you as soon as you step over the threshold. The space is small, intimate, and everything seems to have been chosen with care: from the music, usually soft and ambient, to the simple yet aesthetic presentation of coffee and tea.The name "Yugen" itself refers to a classic Japanese aesthetic concept, which is difficult to translate exactly, but it revolves around the mysterious, the suggestive, the deep feeling that lies behind things that are not immediately visible - and that is exactly the feeling that the place exudes.

The term kimono means 'a thing(s) to wear'. It is a robe made of a piece of cloth measuring 10-12 meters by 30-40 centimeters, from which eight pieces are cut and in which all the fabric is used. A band, called the obi, is tied around the waist. Any differences in shape, materials, and images are determined by age, gender, marital status, social position, and season. The kimono was imported from China to Japan at the beginning of the 7th century. The shape has undergone some minor changes over time.

[2024, March 28] travelandmore 📌Fukuoka, Japan. My first meeting at Kushida Shrine, the oldest shrines in Fukuoka, with two oldies was so funny. They enthusiastically showed me their Goshuin booklet, where they had all been before, and then asked for my booklet. I knew it, but I didn't have one yet. Because of these ladies, I changed my mind. The Japanese temple red-stamp notebook is a small book that you can bring to the shrines and temples around Japan. Upon your first visit to a temple in Japan, you can buy a Goshuin notebook. You then hand your new book to the monk at the temple. The monk uses black ink to hand-write the name and date using traditional Japanese calligraphy. Afterwards he stamps your book with a large red stamp that is unique to that specific temple. You pay (donate) a few euro to the temple (usually ¥200-¥500). [2023, November 5] travelandmore 📌Koyasan, Japan. The trip to Koyasan can be done by public transport (train and cable car). It is a unique experience to spend the night in one of the temples in Koyasan. This is known as Shukubo and offers the opportunity to participate in Buddhist ceremonies and meals. 📌Okunoin Cemetery**
The rain doesn't stop us from walking to and over the most important and sacred place in Koyasan. It is the site of the mausoleum of Kobo Daishi, the founder of Shingon Buddhism. The cemetery leading to the mausoleum contains many stone lanterns and tombstones. Red to protect children from bad luck. For long time, it has been believed that the color red is meant to ward off evil spirits. For this reason, red cloth was used for baby clothes. Red aprons and hoods were worn (dedicated) to Jozo with the hope that he would protect the child. Recently, various colors and patterns other than red are used for Jozo-sama, partly because of their cute appearance. Tips for Accommodation

**Respect the customs** Temple residences have their own rules and customs, such as early bedtime and silence. Make sure to follow these rules to show respect for the religious nature of the place.
**Food** Temple abodes usually serve Shojin Ryori, a form of Buddhist vegetarian cuisine that does not contain any animal products. It's a unique and healthy dining experience.
